Transport & Cable Route

Turbine Delivery Route

Wind turbine deliveries to the Castlepook Wind Farm will begin mid May 2017. To avoid local traffic disruption every effort will be made so that lorries will deliver the components during off peak hours. Deliveries will be intermittent over a period of months and will be under the direction of An Garda Síochána. All turbine deliveries will be made via the project’s designated turbine delivery route, which is shown below. Updates will be available on our project website closer to the time. A door to door consultation along the L-1329 section of the route will also take place to inform residents prior to the first component delivery.

Cable Route

The installation of the underground 38kV export cable and ducting to Charleville substation from Castlepook Wind Farm is being carried out under well developed construction and environmental management plans. Every effort is undertaken to minimise disruption for local residents with diversion routes and signage in place.

At all times during construction, local access is being maintained for local residents and regular road users. A traffic management system is in place to minimise disruption for local road users and to allow the construction works to be completed safely. During the remaining cable and ducting installation works there will be increased traffic volumes to and from the works area. All construction traffic is following agreed designated transport routes. Door to door public engagement and letter drops by the Castlepook Wind Farm project team continue as part of these works in the local community.

The 38kV underground cable ducting installation works update as of the 30th April 2017:

  • The section from Castlepook substation to the public road at Ballynaboola is complete;
  • The section from Ballynaboola to Ardskeagh cross via Garrane cross roads is complete;
  • The section from Charleville substation to the N20 has also been completed;
  • Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) has been completed as part of these works under the N20 at Charleville Showgrounds and under the railway line near Pruntus on the L-5531.

Cable ducting installation works are currently in progress on the L-5531. This is the section from Ardskeagh cross roads to the railway line crossing near Pruntus. The installation of the 38kV underground cable between joint bays, at various stages along the route from Castlepook Wind Farm to Charleville substation, will commence shortly. Traffic management plans will also be in place for this phase of works.
