Ballyhoura Wind Farm
At present there are two separate wind farm developments being constructed in the Ballyhoura mountain area. Castlepook Wind Farm being developed by ESB/Coillte and the Ballyhoura Wind Farm being developed by Brookfield Renewable Ireland. The developments are shown in the picture below. Both developments will share the same grid connection and designated transport route for access and turbine deliveries.
Castlepook Wind Farm, consisting of 14 wind turbine generators, is being developed by ESB and Coillte. The major civil construction elements are nearing completion with wind turbine deliveries and installation scheduled to begin Summer 2017. The development is due to be operational in early 2018. The 33.1MW development will be capable of producing enough renewable electricity to meet the yearly needs of over 17,000 households.
The Community Benefit Fund was launched in 2016 for the Castlepook development and will be in place for the operational lifetime of the project
Ballyhoura Wind Farm, consisting of 6 wind turbine generators is currently beginning construction. This neighbouring stand alone project is being developed by Brookfield Renewable Ireland. Construction is expected to take approximately 11 months and the development is expected to become operational in early 2018.
The 19.2 MW development will be capable of producing enough renewable electricity to meet the yearly electricity needs of over 6,000 homes. A community benefit fund has also been established for this project. Funding will commence in the first year of operation and will last for the lifetime of the project, with a review every five years.
* Brookfield Renewable Ireland will also carry out a letter drop and door to door consultation over the coming months in the environs of the Ballyhoura Wind Farm site.
